Beginnings and the Paladin Code.
Hi folks, once again we restart the game, after all met with ignominious deaths at the hands of some cult. this time the group have formed in the city of Afeld, to the north. The group this time comprises of a range of races and classes. Their first 'job' was to investigate some bandits in the hope of gaining some money ( and perhaps a little fame as well). Im telling you all this because - again I forgot to push the record button...DOH!
Next to the Paladin Code. Thank you for the link,it is very very interesting for another reason which I will get to later. My issue with seeing a Paladin's code on a spectrum of behaviours or choices is that in first edition it is clear to what standard a Paladin is held - the highest - else why would it have so many constraints to become one if all and sundry could be one. They are to expound the virtue of Lawful Good - and all that comes with that, they belong to a lawful good religion - and all the good and bad that comes with it, their powers are designed to detect, uproot and stamp out evil in any or all its forms... nothing is free, to gain these abilities and be held in high regard ( be that revered or feared) it seems only fair that the individual is held to the same level of standards of comportment as those of their gained abilities and status.
What I like about the Paladin code in the link was that it gave players an idea of the enormity of expectations placed upon a Paladin, its not just about bashing up the 'bad guy' - any character can do that, some better than others. Its a pity this part wasn't included in the players book as it would help any player understand the enormity of what it is to be a Paladin - that shining light of all that is good and right in the world ( insert inspiring music here building slowly - a man standing alone on a crag, his long blonde hair waving in the wind as he holds his helmet under one arm and a shield in the other - planted in front of him is his sword - that squared chin- lol ) Thats my 5 cents worth anyways

Aha! Roll dem die and...
So it appears things are dark for the group, once again the dice gods are unfavorable, BUT, there is a small glimmer of hope for a few.....

Sigh, can they catch a break!?!?
So the group meet to try and decide on what to do.. head up and face
whatever was above them or head out and try and put some distance
between them and this tower. After some discussion they decided the
latter. This resulted in Ros Kov almost walking directly into the
waiting arms of a ghoul circling the tower. Rushing him inside to
recover they try again to leave this cursed site - BUT a volley of
arrows rain down on them. Stuck between what was outside and what was
above the group took refuge, healed over night and then made a bold plan
to try and take on whatever lay above them. The plan got them through
the next level and the three cultists they encountered and then a series
of very very very very bad rolls left the group with Oriest
unconscious, J dying of poison and Hector just managing to keep standing
while a frail Ros Kov and Riza cower on the stairs to the next level.
They managed to down 2 of the five cultists awaiting them. We will
return next game to see what happens... it don't look good!. And the
reason I am typing this instead of doing the recorded thing - well yes
technology failed us again... its almost like the universe has it in for
these poor souls..... til next time... Game On!
